Email clients make it easier to manage and reply to received messages, but there are still many improvements that can be made. MailExplorer allows you to retrieve messages from several sources, store them in different locations, convert them and more. You can perform numerous tasks on your messages or you can use this program as an alternative email client.

MailExplorer works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and it provides support for popular mail clients, like MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Eudora and others. The setup package is 20 MB and it should not take long to install the software.

The user interface has a familiar design and you may customize it, by rearranging its elements, changing the size of the text and icons or by selecting different skins. You can browse through folders in a tree structure, located on the left side of the window, and view a list of received messages and their contents, in separate panels. The core functions are organized on ribbon menus and you can bring up additional options, on the right side of the window, by clicking a series of tabs.

The interface may be similar to other mail clients, but its functionality is unique. By default, the program allows you to explore your local partitions, but you can select other sources, like mail clients, IMAP or POP servers or email backups. If a client is selected, you may connect to its database with a single click. In certain cases, you will need to bring up an options panel, to specify a mail server, a username and a password.

When you connect to a mail client or server, the software will display your messages in the same folder structure. You can use the available options to download images, open messages or headers and if you configure one or more SMPT servers, in the general settings menu, you may reply to any message. Selected messages can be copied to a local storage folder with a single click. If you want to store them in a different path, you can specify it in the general settings menu.

It is possible to make a series of configurations on a separate window, for individual file types, like Outlook MSG files, PDF documents, HTML files and others. If you select a file type, on one of the ribbon menus, a window will show up, on which you can set up a destination path, decide how to process duplicates, how to store the messages and much more.

Pros

The software is capable of connecting to various mail clients and servers. It allows you to save your messages in local folders, convert them and more. You can make a good number of configurations for individual files types.

Cons

MailExplorer's trial version displays a maximum of 20 messages per folder. MailExplorer enables you to organize, store or convert messages from numerous sources, on the same interface.
